If Power Plates are currently a part of your fitness regimen, then you know the benefits these machines offer. But if you’ve never tried Power Plates, read on to learn more about what they are and how they can power up your fitness efforts.

What Are Power Plates?

A Power Plate is a machine with a wide, flat surface that vibrates 25 to 50 times per second. These vibrations stimulate muscles to contract and relax. While users can simply stand on the machine to receive some benefit, it’s much more common for people to use Power Plates to enhance their workouts.  Hundreds of exercises can be performed on a Power Plate, including common favorites like push-ups, crunches, squats, and planks.

How did Power Plate® get its start?

The concept of whole-body vibration was first used by astronauts to help them regain muscle and bone density after long stays in zero gravity. Power Plate® expanded upon this technology to engineer fitness equipment that is now used worldwide.

What benefits do Power Plates deliver to users?

They can be used by virtually anyone. People of all ages and fitness levels use Power Plates, including professional athletes, collegiate sports teams, celebrities, gyms, personal trainers, physical therapists, and everyday folks who want to improve their muscle mass, circulation, flexibility, and balance.

They speed up your training. The vibration produced by a Power Plate activates a natural reflexive response in your body that works your muscles harder while you exercise.

They can help you lose weight. People who use Power Plates in conjunction with a healthy, calorie-controlled diet have reported significant weight loss. Research has also shown that Power Plate use may significantly reduce body fat; it’s believed this is because metabolism is increased during and following exercise.

They can improve your flexibility and strength. By vibrating up and down, side-to-side, and front-to-back, Power Plates destabilize the body and promote reflexive responses in the muscles. This means the body must constantly work to balance and stabilize itself, developing strength and flexibility faster than traditional exercise.

They can help with your recovery. Not only are Power Plates great for exercise, but you can also use them to massage your muscles, in turn promoting better circulation and a faster recovery time following exercise.

They give you a fast workout. The vibration training provided by Power Plates can give you a full-body workout that includes stretching, balance, strength training, core, and massage in as fast as 15 minutes. Some people claim that 10 minutes on a Power Plate has the same results as 60 minutes of conventional training.
