At Adventure Fitness Athletic Club, we consider our members, staff, and community a part of our fitness family. That’s why we’re working around the clock to do our part to keep our fitness family safe as we navigate through this new era of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On top of our already strict cleaning practices at our Thornton gym, we’re taking extra steps during the COVID-19 outbreak to sanitize every surface in our gym including equipment and high-traffic areas. We are also carefully reviewing and following all local, state, and CDC guidelines. Read on to learn more.
Cleaning the equipment
At AFAC, we have a wide variety of equipment for our members to use. While this is a great benefit for our members, we also understand that equipment surfaces need to be sanitized before and after each use. Here are the measures we’re taking to keep our equipment clean:
- We ask all our members to wipe our equipment down with sanitizing wipes before and after use.
- All trainers at our gym are responsible for making sure all equipment and areas are disinfected and clean.
- Our staff disinfects the gym hourly.
Disinfectant stations
To make the cleaning process as efficient and convenient as possible, we provide disinfectant stations throughout the gym and encourage members to use our disinfecting wipes to clean high-touch surfaces, including the fitness equipment.
Our disinfectant stations provide access to 2XL Antibacterial Force Wipes, which have demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to the 2019 Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) on hard, nonporous surfaces. These EPA-registered wipes offer full-spectrum protection against 49 pathogens, helping us meet strict infection control standards at our gym.
In addition, the wipes stationed throughout the gym are alcohol-free, ammonia-free, non-toxic, and non-irritating.
Cleaning the gym
On top of making sure our equipment is sanitized, we also clean and disinfect the gym itself including common areas, bathrooms, and offices. Here are the measures we’re taking to keep AFAC immaculate:
- We clean all rooms in the gym, including our bathrooms and cryotherapy room, after each use.
- Our entire gym undergoes a weekly fogging with hospital-grade disinfectant.
- We also have the hospital-grade disinfectant sprayed into our ventilation systems.
How does disinfectant fogging work?
The weekly fogging of our gym and ventilation systems takes our disinfection efforts to the next level. While disinfectant wipes and sprays are good for everyday use, they are applied to a targeted area. Disinfectant fogging, on the other hand, creates a mist that reaches far and wide, covering both high-traffic and hard-to-reach surfaces in one pass.
A fogger converts an antimicrobial solution into a vapor and then disperses it. This fog covers and sanitizes everything it touches including surfaces, floors, walls, and difficult-to-reach spots that otherwise could go unnoticed. The fog combats airborne pathogens as it moves through the air, as well. Once the fogging is finished, all hard surfaces are wiped down to remove any extra solution.
Since the gym needs to be vacant for at least six hours after being fogged, we schedule the fogging on Sundays when the gym is closed.
Weekly disinfectant fogging offers many benefits. For example, disinfectant fog:
- Efficiently and thoroughly applies disinfectant to large spaces and high-contact objects including our rock climbing walls, light switches, table tops, doorknobs, desks, and equipment.
- Reaches nooks and crannies that are difficult to clean.
- Eliminates the need to move furniture and equipment in order to disinfect.
- Cleans large areas quickly and easily, which makes it perfect for buildings like ours where there’s traffic from employees, clients, and visitors.
- Can be applied to ventilation systems.
Social distancing, handwashing, and face coverings
While it’s important to make sure our gym environment is disinfected, we also strive to follow the CDC’s guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19. That’s why our team here at AFAC encourages:
- Social distancing — People should stay at least 6 feet apart in our workout areas and during our classes.
- Frequent handwashing — Everyone in our gym is asked to wash their hands as often as possible with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Hand sanitizer is also available for use.
- Face coverings — A mask or other face covering worn over the nose and mouth is required when entering and exiting the gym. Face coverings can be removed while exercising as long as you are at least 6 feet away from others.
The CDC also recommends not touching the nose, face, eyes, or mouth, as well as covering all coughs and sneezes.
