It’s no exaggeration to say that COVID-19 has affected every aspect of our lives, including our fitness routines. At Adventure Fitness Athletic Club, we understand that our members are concerned about staying safe and healthy during the pandemic, and that’s our biggest concern, too! For this reason, we’ve taken extraordinary measures to keep our Thornton gym thoroughly disinfected at all times. We also provide sanitation stations throughout our gym and strictly adhere to other guidelines like wearing face coverings and social distancing.
In addition, we’re happy to announce that one of our most popular services at the gym — cryotherapy — is still available. Better yet, our cryotherapy chamber is designed to provide each user with the safest experience possible, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Read on to learn why.
Why is cryotherapy better at AFAC?
Many people in the Thornton area want to continue their workouts and cryotherapy sessions during the COVID-19 pandemic, but are worried about multiple people using the same equipment. That’s why it’s important to join a gym that keeps their equipment sanitized. But what about cryotherapy chambers? What is the best cryotherapy chamber to use during COVID-19? Can germs live in the cold temperatures? If so, how does a gym disinfect the chamber properly?
Our cryotherapy chamber has non-porous surfaces
You might be surprised to learn that viruses and bacteria can survive freezing temperatures, even those inside a cryotherapy chamber. However, the cryotherapy chamber at AFAC has a non-porous interior surface that can be easily sanitized after each use. Our staff meticulously cleans the cryotherapy chamber following every session to ensure it’s completely sterile for the next person to use.
Other cryotherapy chambers are harder to clean because they have cloth-lined interiors that can absorb viruses and bacteria.
Our cryotherapy chamber is open from the neck up
Another advantage of the cryotherapy chamber at AFAC is the fact that your head remains exposed at all times. Users prefer this configuration over an enclosed cryotherapy chamber because they don’t want to be trapped inside a small space where another person might have exhaled germs. The head-out cryotherapy chamber at AFAC helps our members feel safer, as does our enforcement of the face covering policy at all times.
Our cryotherapy chamber is for individual use
While some cryotherapy sessions at other facilities are held in rooms that can hold multiple users, our cryotherapy chamber only allows one user at a time. This means each user doesn’t have to worry about exposure to other users’ germs while inside the chamber. It also allows our staff to carefully disinfect the cryotherapy chamber after each individual use.
Why cryotherapy is still important during COVID-19
While cryotherapy will not prevent or cure an illness, including coronavirus, it still can play an important part in your health and wellness routine. How?
It helps you stay on track with your workouts
Since cryotherapy helps you avoid inflammation and sore muscles, it can play an important part in keeping you on schedule with you fitness routine. Instead of skipping exercise because you’re hurting, you’ll be more likely to stick to your workouts because cryotherapy alleviates your discomfort. It’s more important than ever to stay committed to a fit and heathy lifestyle!
It can boost your immune system
Cryotherapy is said to help the immune system in several ways. For example, cryotherapy:
- Increases circulation — This sends oxygen- and nutrient-rich blood throughout your body.
- Reduces systemic inflammation — Cryotherapy elevates anti-inflammatory cytokines which helps reduce inflammation in the body. It also can prevent more inflammation from occurring. Chronic inflammation is associated with many diseases; therefore, avoiding inflammation is believed to be a key factor in staying healthy.
- Increases the amount of white blood cells in the body — These are the cells that help us fight infection and disease.
- Increases endorphins — Cryotherapy causes our body to release large amounts of endorphins, and endorphins have been shown to reduce cortisol (the body’s stress hormone that can cause immunosuppression). A reduction in cortisol strengthens the immune system.
