4 Mistakes You Could Be Making on the Treadmill

treadmill mistakes
We all know it and might even use it at the gym on a regular basis, the treadmill. That wonderful machine that allows us to take a run even on the worst of days. It seems so simple, you turn it on and you run, but is this simplicity causing bad habits to be formed? Check out these 5 common mistakes you may be making without even realizing it on the treadmill.
  1. Hanging On. Holding on to the bars may seem like it’s meant to be, they are there after all, right, but holding tight to those bars could be costing you burned calories and your full body workout. When you support your upper body and core like, when you lean on handlebars, you could be burning fewer calories and not engaging your whole body.
  2. Leaning Forward. Leaning forward on the treadmill could cause a loss in balance and could cause you lower back pain.
  3. Arm Position. When running on the treadmill some may swing their arms out the side or try and keep them close in to the chest. You could actually be limiting your workout because if you don’t keep those arms in check, you could be burning valuable energy that you need to keep going.
  4. You Do the Same Routine Over and Over. Isn’t this the definition of insanity, well it is when it comes to a workout on the treadmill. As your body adapts to the routine, it will become much less efficient over time. Continued stress on the same muscles and joints aren’t good for you either.
Next time you hit the gym for a run on the treadmill , keep these mistakes in mind, so you can get a better workout. Need a new place to hit the treadmill? Want to get more tips on using it properly?
