AARON DEROSE

GROUP CLASS AND ROCK CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR
Aaron DeRose
Hi, my name is Aaron DeRose. Raised in Boulder, CO, I was inspired at a young age to engage in sports and the adventurous lifestyle Colorado had to offer. My first inspiration came from the 1972 Olympic gold medalist marathon winner, Frank Shorter, and founder of the Bolder Boulder. As I grew, so did my love for distance running and all sports in general. This love carried over into casual, intramural, competitive, and extreme sports alike, not ever realizing at the time how much it would continue to shape my life. Participating in competitive long-distance running, soccer, track, gymnastics, wrestling, basketball, volleyball, mountain biking, hockey, swimming, and diving, coupled with casual to extreme sports like rock climbing, mountaineering, skiing, snowboarding, rollerblading, break dancing, paragliding, cliff diving, surfing, and parachuting offered an arena to expand on skills, learn new ones, and to appreciate the active, adventurous, exciting and healthy lifestyles and people that came with them. As a young teen I enrolled in Gymnastics and began coaching while still competing for the men’s team program. This gave me the fortunate opportunities to workout with, train, and coach with many Olympic gymnasts and elite athletes alike from many sporting and fitness modalities. These coaches, athletes and peers instilled in me the importance of a positive attitude, exciting approaches to learning, safe progressions of skills and the importance of camaraderie as a means of having fun, breaking a sweat, building self confidence, pushing yourself to new limits and making friends. Over the last decade though, it has been rock climbing and dancing that have moved to the top of my inspirations chart. To be able to offer these type of classes at the club are just one of the many reasons I am so happy to be a part of the AFAC’s knowledgeable and wonderful trainers / staff / team. It has always been my passion working with people and sharing life experiences, my joy of fitness, and the pursuit of a happy and healthy lifestyle.
